Rules Governing the Award of the Aline and Émile Mayrisch Prize

 

1. In close cooperation with the ArcelorMittal Foundation, and under the patronage of the Minister for Cultural Affairs of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, the non profit-making organisation “Le Cercle des Amis de Colpach” governed by Luxembourg law, organises every 4 years a contest with a view to awarding a prize dedicated to the memory of Émile Mayrisch and his spouse Aline de Saint-Hubert.

The objective of this prize is to foster “the spirit of Colpach”, characterised by the openness to cultural currents and the promotion of the understanding between European peoples.

The fifth edition of the prize will take place in the late autumn of 2023.

2. The prize is endowed with the sum of 14.000 €, offered by ArcelorMittal. The amount is split into two parts:

– a first prize of 10,000 €;

– a second prize of 4,000 €.

The prize is certified by a diploma signed by the members of the jury.

3. The prize is open to researchers, students, journalists and other authors, residents of Germany, Belgium, France or Luxembourg and aged 24 and above.
4. The works submitted to the contest will deal with
4.1. – a historical, political, economical and/or social level:

research on convergent and divergent objectives of the great actors and underlying forces in the Franco-Belgo-German-Luxembourg area;

4.2. – a cultural level:

research regarding the relations between writers, intellectuals and artists, bringing out the mutual influences in the Franco-Belgo-German-Luxembourg area.

The works submitted to the contest may also consist of contributions from the written press, radio and television, standing out for their pedagogical interest or their explanatory method of the themes taken up under the points 4.1 and 4.2.

5. The works may be submitted in German, French or English language.
6. Will be given consideration works that have not yet been edited or works published after the fourth edition of the prize in September 2019.
7. For the fifth edition of the Aline and Émile Mayrisch award, the deadline for handing in the works to the jury is 1st September 2023, date as evidenced by the postmark.
8. Each entrant may submit only one work and must send one hard copy and an electronic edition of this work to the following address:

The entrant must join a copy of his identity card or passport.

Moreover the entrant must hand in a max. two-page outline of the content of his work.

9. Postage costs for the entered work will be borne by the entrant.
10. The copy of the work will not be returned.
11. Participation in the contest is open and free and implies acceptance of the present rules.
12. The Aline and Émile Mayrisch award is given by an international jury composes of at least 7 members.
13. The jury may decide to consult experts from the moment this is considered preferable.
14. The members of the jury as well as their spouses and direct descendants may not participate in the contest.

The same is true for the members of the administrative board of the Cercle des Amis de Colpach, their spouses and direct descendants.

15. The jury reserves the right not to award a prize if it considers that the entered works do not meet the spirit of the prize.
16. The deliberations of the jury are secret. Decisions taken by the jury need not to be justified and are without appeal.
17. The jury has the final power to settle all cases not covered by the present rules.
